The First Friday Art Walk, a celebration of Nevada City’s diverse mix of galleries, retail shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants, and creative community, will kick off May 1 at 5:00 p.m.
Participating downtown businesses will be open from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. and many will host receptions with local artists, trunk shows, special one night only sales and performances.
Maps are available at any of the participating locations, the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, the Artwalk booth on Commercial Street, or online. May 2015 Artwalk Map.pdf
The May theme of “Cycles” is a nod to Nevada City’s stop on the AMGEN tour as well as our own unique cycling culture.
A raffle fundraiser is planned featuring Christie Stewart.
Her found object assemblage sculpture, “Le Tour” will be on display at J.J. Kacksons’ April 28 through May 10, 2015.
Raffle tickets are available for purchase at J.J. Jackson’s, the Parlour at Neva Co., and at the Artwalk booth on Commercial Street.
Nevada City will be alive with art, music, performance, and creative engagements.
Live music featuring Dangerous Curves on the Boardwalk Stage and String Sisters on York Street Stage, as well as a special season long Passport Stamp activity, will keep visitors of all ages happy and engaged.
“This year we are working hard to roll out new interactive initiatives to keep people moving throughout the town and excited to visit all the shops and artists on the map. I’m really excited for “Art in the Park” at Calanan Park (at the bottom of Broad St). I love that people can stroll through the park and visit 20 local crafters and artists selling their creations,” says Art Walk founder Cynthia Levesque.
“Treats has always enjoyed closing off York Street in order to provide activities and performances for our community’s younger artists and their families.
We are excited for the May kick off and the entire Art Walk Season”, adds Treats Owner and Art Walk Board member Peggy Wright.
“The Inn Town Campground is excited to be a sponsor of this year’s First Friday Art Walk because we support the merchants of downtown Nevada City and the art and music scene in our community.
While our campground is still a year away from opening, we wanted to get the word out there about the exciting new venture that’ll be in the heart of downtown Nevada City,” said co-owner Erin Thiem.
Artists are encouraged to submit work for consideration for future Art Walks via the website. Details about submissions, maps, a complete list of participating businesses and sponsorships opportunities can be found at http://artwalknc.com/.
