About the Collection

The Nevada City Box Office is pleased to host “Luminosity”, a Dance Photography Exhibition by Kristin Oliver.  The Box Office is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The exhibition will hang from May 7, 2012 through June 11, 2012.  This collection features dancers from local dance company The Movement Alliance.  Kristin recently reflected on her experiences photographing the company.  “I first photographed The Movement Alliance in 2007 and fell in love with their elegance, strength and intellect.  Because of them, I make it a point to photograph dancers whenever I can.  And somehow, they put up with  my camera and all my dangerous requests…  My mantra?  Please don’t fall.”

About the Artist

Born in Miami, Florida, Kristin Oliver has traveled throughout the Americas, Europe and the Middle East, living for extended periods in Berlin, Germany and New Orleans, Louisiana.  She has a degree in graphic art and has owned her own photography studio in northern California for the last ten years.

In 2011, Kristin set aside her camera for the time being and took off for Buenos Aires to learn tango.  Along the way, she swam with sharks in the Caribbean Sea, dabbled in equestrian polo, sampled many a lovely South American wine and managed to write pages upon pages of random observations whilst drinking countless cups of coffee.

She took a few photographs as well.  Some habits are hard to break.

Now back behind the lens with one foot planted in Nevada City and one hand reaching towards New York City, she is riding the waves, always with an eye on the compass rose.
