HAPA ~ “Pahinui Aloha”
The Miners Foundry Cultural Center is pleased to present HAPA on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Often described as the “Sound of Maui” or the “Soundtrack of Hawaii”, the music of HAPA evokes a place many have referred to as heavenly. Expect to hear hypnotic, liquid guitar runs woven around clear, tenor Hawaiian vocals, driven by poetic lyrics exulting the rapture of the Hawaiian landscape, history, and mythology. Add a dose of American Folk-Rock, and the result is what the Maui Times described as “the most exciting and beautiful contemporary Hawaiian music the world knows.”
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the music begins at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $25.00 and are available online, by phone or in person at the Miners Foundry, (530) 265-5040, or in person at Briar Patch Co-Op.
The overriding quality of HAPA’s music is one of passion, beauty, and serenity, found in the majestic tones of the oli (chant), mele (song), and the exhilarating innovative sounds of virtuoso guitar performances.
A prolific composer and performer, and one of Hawaii’s most respected recording artists and producers, Barry Flanagan has composed some of Hawaii’s most popular songs of the last three decades. The evolution of HAPA continues with the addition of newest member, singer-songwriter Ron Kuala’au. Ron’s earliest memories are of large family gatherings with lots of music and singing, and he joins HAPA after releasing five full length solo albums featuring his soulful vocals and beautifully penned Hawaiian songs.
