For over 25 years, Mumbo Gumbo has been one of Northern California’s top groups, bringing genre-bending Americana music to their many fans.  Fronted by two first-rate singer/songwriters, Chris Webster and Tracy Walton, the band is anchored and driven by one of the region’s longest-lived rhythm sections: drummer Rick Lotter and bassist Lynn Michael Palmer. With Reggy Marks’ sax, Jon Wood’s guitar, and Steve Stizzo’s keyboards fleshing out the band’s expansive sound, Gumbo has built a reputation not just for danceability, but for creative depth.

It starts with the songs. Moving back and forth between Webster’s sly, sometimes melancholy explorations of romance and individuality and Walton’s ebullient, unabashed celebrations of family and commitment, Gumbo weaves a rich tapestry of sound and sensibility that transcends genre.  Coloring the space between the kinetic rhythm section and the intertwined singers are three veteran musicians: Marks, whose saxophone, flute, percussion and soulful harmonies add a third voice to the sound; Stizzo, whose exquisit work on organ, piano, and accordion add character as well as color; and Wood, whose guitar playing weaves in and out, shading the rhythms and occasionally lending a sharp, melodic solo.

The result can be positively relentless, as the band’s extended jams drive dancers wild while giving non-dancers plenty to listen to!

Cherry Rats | Deer Creek Bar

The Miners Foundry is pleased to present Cherry Rats, Park Street Riot, and the Bob Woods Trio at the Deer Creek Bar on Saturday, May 29, 2021.  The show begins at 7:00pm and patrons will be seated at 6:30pm.

Cherry Rats, Nevada City’s heaviest band started from humble beginnings common to Nevada City:  musicians run into each other at breakfast and a band is born.  Guitarist and singer Chris Streng, bassist Art Echternacht, and drummer Ryan Everson christened themselves Cherry Rats, a loose anagram of the names Chris, Ryan, and Art. The band knew immediately this would be no slacker garage rock affair, they were on a mission to be the loudest, craziest, and most flamboyant hard rock outfit ever to emerge from the Sierra Foothills.   Their double album “Hungry for Distortion / Appetite for Dynamite” will be released on multiple formats in 2022.  Cherry Rats are poised to make heavy metal history with their head banging riffs, propulsive rhythms, and a live show that must be seen to be believed.

Formed in the quiet northern California foothills in 2016, Nevada City’s Park Street Riot has continually pushed their own sonic edge, establishing themselves as one of the most dynamic, powerful, and energetic new bands to emerge from the greater Sacramento area.  In the current sea of cheap rock monotony, Park Street Riot’s music shines as a strange and exceptional jewel, bringing forth a realness and honesty representative of their own personal friendship and backwoods home.

Nevada County favorites the Bob Woods Trio features Bob Woods, Skip Alan Smith, and Billy Smart.  With a combined 145 years of playing music the seasoned members of the Bob Woods Trio offer a unique style and sound that matches their diverse music.
