Hand to God

Sierra Stages and the Miners Foundry will present Hand to God on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.  Hand to God, written by Robert Askins and directed by Ken Getz, is the next installment of Theater By the Book, a series of informal play readings for the community.  The performance features Judy Merrick, Jay Barker, Danny McCammon, Jori Phillips, and Robert Rossman, with special thanks to Puppetry Consultant Ken Miele.

Described as “Sesame Street meets The Exorcist” by the New Yorker, Hand to God tells the story of an awkward Texas teen named Jason, who spends his afternoons at his local church, practicing for the Christian Puppet Ministry run by his widowed mother. All hell literally breaks loose, however, when Jason’s puppet Tyrone takes on a shocking and dangerously irreverent personality all its own.   Nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Play, Hand to God explores the startlingly fragile nature of faith, morality, and the ties that bind.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.  Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation.  Advance tickets are available online, in person or by phone at the Miners Foundry, or at the door.

boom

Sierra Stages and the Miners Foundry will present boom on Wednesday, November 13 at 7:30pm.  Written by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb and directed by Cosmo Merryweather, boom is the next installment of Theater By the Book, a series of informal play readings for the community.

“Sex to Change the Course of the World”— a grad student’s online personal ad lures a mysterious journalism student to his subterranean research lab under the pretense of an evening of “no strings attached” sex. But when a major global catastrophic event strikes the planet, their date takes on evolutionary significance and the fate of humanity hangs in the balance. Will they survive? What about the fish in the tank? And who is that woman pulling levers and playing the timpani? An epic and intimate comedy that spans over billions of years, boom explores the influences of fate versus randomness in the course of one’s life, and life as we know it on the planet.
Theater by the Book’s reading of boom is directed by Cosmo Merryweather, who doubles as a member of the cast that also includes two terrific actresses, Kate Haight and Michaela King. As an added bonus, stage directions for the reading will be read by Danny McCammon.

This reading will be performed with no intermission.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation
