Desert Dwellers

Miners Foundry Cultural Center is pleased to present Desert Dwellers on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 8:00pm.

Desert Dwellers is the convergence of music producers Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, who honed their individual skills in the mystical deserts of New Mexico and California, long before electronic music reached the mainstream. Amani and Treavor combine the raw sounds of the natural world, wrapped in dance-floor and chill-out productions; blending deep bass, earthy percussion, etheric voices, and cross-cultural instrumentation into a sonic incense for the mind and body. Desert Dwellers’ unique global sounds are a bridge between worlds, and their label Desert Trax has become a platform to spotlight similar alchemical artists.

Desert Dwellers

More about the Artist

Brought together in the late ‘90s through the legendary Moontribe
gatherings, in 2019, Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe celebrated their 20th anniversary of making music together, adding depth to their reputation as a pioneering and prolific downtempo, psybass, and tribal house act from the United States. The culmination of two decades of partnership has forged their Beatport #1 selling electronica album BREATH, out on Black Swan Sounds, which features more than 20 musicians and vocalists over a 10-track journey. Desert Dwellers’ studio output is matched only by their extensive touring history, which juxtaposes performances at America’s most iconic venues like Red Rocks, festivals like Symbiosis, Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man, and Coachella, with high-powered sets at the biggest trance festivals around the world; BOOM in Portugal and Rainbow Serpent in Australia. Desert Dwellers are equally at home in clubs as they are in yoga studios, and the jungles, deserts, and mountains of far-flung international festivals.

Poranguí

The Beauty Way album and tour are inspired by Diné (Navajo) teachings from Poranguí & Ashley’s beloved Southwest. To walk in the Beauty Way is to live in balance and harmony with the unfolding of all life. Walking the Beauty Way together, we weave ourselves more deeply into the fabric of the earth, herself. Porangui’s forthcoming album, Beauty Way, will be released incrementally over the summer.

Hózhóogo naasháa doo.

More about saQi

Drawing his name from the Sufi title for mystic muse, saQi is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and educator. As an early pioneer of live-electronic music in the West Coast scene he has continued to innovate and explore new realms of sonic alchemy by fusing elements of American blues, hip-hop, latin, soul and world music with the refined minimalism of European dance genres. Over the years saQi has masterfully crafted his own sovereign sound that is never limited by tempo, genre or any other creative framework. Live sets journey seamlessly from low tempo bass to high energy dance music and everything in between. The show is presented in a multitude of configurations ranging from solo DJ sets to a full live ensemble including horn sections, guitar, vocalists, percussion, keys and strings.

With 5 studio albums released on the independent label Jumpsuit Records saQi has collaborated and performed with an array of prominent artists including The Polish Ambassador, Beats Antique, Emancipator, edIT (of the Glitch Mob), Random Rab, Rising Appalachia, March Fourth Marching Band, Russ Liquid, Bluetech and The Everyone Orchestra. The project has been featured all over the world, from West Coast festivals such as Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle and Symbiosis Gathering, to international dates in Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Switzerland, India and Bali.

“What makes the soul of the poet dance? It is the inspiration that beauty gives. The Sufi have called this beauty saQi… ” ~Inayat Khan
