A Tree of Life ~ Lin Schiffner
Exhibitors range in age from 8 to 84, and offer a broad spectrum of altars. A variety of media is used, altar themes are limited only by the imagination of the altar maker. The work can be inspiring, mysterious, insightful, humorous, informative, or even outrageous.
Some altars embrace the tradition of “Dia de los Muertos”, made to honor deceased loved ones. Other altar makers choose to convey an array of personal and contemporary themes including peace, the environment, and social issues. Although the works are not primarily religious in nature, the event provides altaristas and viewers a sacred space to renew and remember.
