Oakland’s Legendary Hip-Hop Duo Zion I Return to the Foundry – April 3rd

Oakland’s legendary hip-hop duo Zion I return to the Miners Foundry, Wednesday, April 3rd, with an incredible line up of DJs and MCs including The Grouch, Eligh and DJ Fresh, to perform songs from their latest album “Shadow Boxing” which features collaborations with Collie Buddz, Goapele, Bassnectar and more.

Zion I is the creative collaboration of producer DJ AmpLive and MC Zumbi.  Since their start in 1999, the group has been a major influence in underground hip-hop because of their unique flow of Amp’s futuristic production techniques, using a mix of live instrumentation and samples, and Zumbi’s positive and socially conscious lyrics.  Zion I are known for their exciting live shows that move hundreds of people to their feet to dance and sing along.

Inspired by hip hop greats Kurtis Blow, Run DMC and A Tribe Called Quest, Zion I’s debut album “Mind Over Matter” was released in 2000 to critical acclaim leading to The Source Magazine nominating it for Independent Album of the Year.  Since then, Zion I has released seven albums including “True & Livin” which featured guest appearances with popular underground artists such as Talib Kweli, Aesop Rock, Del tha Funkee Homosapian, and Gift of Gab.

Joining Zion I are The Grouch, Eligh and DJ Fresh. The Grouch is one of the founding members of the internationally infamous crew, The Living Legends. Humbly beginning on a 4-track recorder nearly 15 years ago, The Grouch has steadily grown into one of the prominent figures within the independent hip-hop scene. Known for captivating his listeners with his down to earth and truthfully poignant raps and production, The Grouch has successfully released over ten solo projects, independently.

Los Angeles native Eligh, also hails from The Living Legends crew and is a self-described “genre-breaking, obsessive bass fiend” that has continued to sustain himself as a salient figure for over fifteen years within the world of hip-hop. As a producer, Eligh has provided music for notable acts such as Murs, Rass Kass, and El-P.

DJ Fresh is an English drum & bass and dubstep producer and DJ. He was one of the principal members of drum & bass supergroup, Bad Company.
