Hand to God

Sierra Stages and the Miners Foundry will present Hand to God on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.  Hand to God, written by Robert Askins and directed by Ken Getz, is the next installment of Theater By the Book, a series of informal play readings for the community.  The performance features Judy Merrick, Jay Barker, Danny McCammon, Jori Phillips, and Robert Rossman, with special thanks to Puppetry Consultant Ken Miele.

Described as “Sesame Street meets The Exorcist” by the New Yorker, Hand to God tells the story of an awkward Texas teen named Jason, who spends his afternoons at his local church, practicing for the Christian Puppet Ministry run by his widowed mother. All hell literally breaks loose, however, when Jason’s puppet Tyrone takes on a shocking and dangerously irreverent personality all its own.   Nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Play, Hand to God explores the startlingly fragile nature of faith, morality, and the ties that bind.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.  Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation.  Advance tickets are available online, in person or by phone at the Miners Foundry, or at the door.

From one of musical theatre’s most excited new composers comes this refreshingly honest, funny musical about making real connections in the city that never sleeps.  When Deb loses her most precious possession, the notes to her graduate thesis, she unwittingly starts a chain of events that turns the ordinary days of four New Yorkers into something extraordinary as they search for fulfillment, happiness, love, and cabs.
