Th’ Losin Streaks

California’s favorite garage-punks Th’ Losin Streaks began their long journey together in 2003 when a group of longtime friends got together after years of watching each other play in different Sacramento groups like The Trouble Makers and Daisy Spot. Obsessed with 1960’s garage bands, the four honed a sound that was both fresh and familiar, and their incendiary live performances generated immediate buzz.

Things happened quickly:  their debut record “Sounds of Violence”, was released in 2004, followed by tours of Europe and the US with invitations to open for legendary acts like The Zombies.  The band and the record collected kudos and built a wide-ranging fanbase that includes The Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra and E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, who proclaimed the group’s “Your Love, Now” as “The Coolest Song in the World (this week)” in his Billboard column and sent the tune into heavy rotation on Sirius’ Underground Garage radio station.  Th’ Losin Streaks’ new album “This Band Will Self-Destruct in T-Minus” was released in 2018 and received rave reviews.

With tour plans cancelled due to 2020, the band used their down time to work on a new record.  Their latest single will be released soon and a third album is on the way.  Th’ Losin Streaks are back and better than ever!

Cherry Rats

Cherry Rats, Nevada City’s heaviest band started from humble beginnings common to Nevada City:  musicians run into each other at breakfast and a band is born.

Guitarist and singer Chris Streng, bassist Art Echternacht, and drummer Ryan Everson christened themselves Cherry Rats, a loose anagram of the names Chris, Ryan, and Art.

The band knew immediately this would be no slacker garage rock affair, they were on a mission to be the loudest, craziest, and most flamboyant hard rock outfit ever to emerge from the Sierra Foothills.

Their double album “Hungry for Distortion / Appetite for Dynamite” will be released on multiple formats in 2022.

Cherry Rats are poised to make heavy metal history with their head banging riffs, propulsive rhythms, and a live show that must be seen to be believed.

Aaron Ross and the Peach Leaves

Aaron Ross has been a force for eclecticism since his time with math rock band Hella (with Zach Hill of Deathgrips and Spencer Seim of sBACH and The Advantage), and his solo trajectory has reflected a constant drive for innovation since his first release, The Hallelujah Side in 2003. His musical path is almost schizophrenic in its complexity, uncompromising innovation, and drive to involve more nuance, layers and mystery with each successive release. But the man himself has eschewed the spotlight to some extent. Impose Magazine calls him ‘bugged out in a backwoods way […]’ and indeed his catalog vacillates in and out of the deeply organic blues-folk of the Sierra Foothills, and the very synthetic, playful and even absurd, here reminiscent of Mick Jagger, there warbling esoteric in the vein of fellow Nevada City native Joanna Newsom.

“We didn’t want to overdo it,” Graham Knibb says. “ Everyone I’ve talked to has so many memories of listening to Aaron just command whatever room he’s in with his voice and a guitar, and that’s it.” When he and Farrow and the Peach Leaves were discussing the album, back in the fall of 2019, there was a sense of sanctity around the songs, a kind of reverence. Ultimately, Swan Songs, Volume 1 is a reenvisioning of a selection of songs from Aaron Ross’s vast catalogue, viewed through the country rock lens of Nevada City band Farrow and the Peach Leaves. With Aaron Ross providing the vocals for this new album, the band’s current lineup features Graham Farrow Knibb on lead guitar and vocals, Zach Peach on drums, Leif Bonfils on Bass, Justin Peach and Keith Knibb providing additional guitar work and Hunter Jones on keyboard and pedal steel.

“I don’t think Aaron would say no to anything, musically,” Zach Peach says. Peach, who was instrumental in the arrangement and production process (via Dream Cabin Sounds), was also cautious about the significance of creating the album at all. “That’s the dangerous part,” he says. “We didn’t want to tread all over some of our favorite songs and songs that really belong to our community in a way. These songs are precious. It was a lot of pulling back. But we’re happy we did it.”

Swan Songs Volume 1 (Dowd Records 2021) will complement the collection of any fan of Aaron Ross or Farrow and the Peach Leaves. It draws, with caution and deliberacy, from Aaron Ross’s vast repertoire, including favorites and deep cuts alike. Songs such as Catch a Glimpse – also a forthcoming single release and music video – drive right to the heart of Gold Country rock, with Rolling Stones vocal work and massive rock and roll thickness. Others look back to the raw blues folk of The Hallelujah Side, with thoughtful orchestration and clear musical talent. Also featured on the record are Liz Ross on backup vocals and Galen Fraser (Atlantic Folk Trio) on fiddle, and the album artwork was done by Beni Ross.

Brett Shady is a singer / songwriter based out of Nevada City, California.

Sugar Mountain

Sugar Mountain, the sweet and sultry Northern California duo consisting of beloved vocalists Karen Woerner & Cassidy Joy, brings you music from multiple decades and genres, all in beautiful harmony.

Karen & Cassidy have been playing together and individually for the better part of the last decade – most recently and notably being hand-picked to open for international guitar legend Tommy Emmanuel – and have an eclectic mix of Folk, Country, Rock, R&B, Pop and traditional songs, ranging from the 50’s to modern day, and even a few original tunes in the mix as well.

Old songs are arranged in an ethereal, poignant manner to make the tunes their own.

Their sound is sweet as candy,  soft but strong, powerful and seductive.

Listeners will be pleased to hear all their favourites, as well as brand new songs in the works.

Nevada City Craft Fair is a juried exhibition of makers curated in the aesthetics of the modern rustic lifestyle that NCCF embodies. Hip, sustainable, yet innovative and whimsical represents the best of the region in our biennial craft fair held at the historic Miners Foundry in downtown Nevada City.

The first Nevada City Craft Festival was produced in the summer of 2010 by a group of local young crafters, artists and social do-gooders who were inspired by the independent entrepreneurship and creative talents in their community as well as the success of the Renegade Craft Fairs across the US and Europe. The event continues to grow and to date has introduced over 10,000 attendees to more than 600 local and regional artists, designers and crafters.

Nevada City Craft Fair is committed to presenting the freshest voices of the local hand-made movement, under one roof. Come celebrate with us!
