Mardi Gras ~ March 1 & 2, 2014

Mardi Gras MaskCelebrate Mardi Gras the Nevada City way with a full weekend of fun.  Weekend activities open Saturday night with the Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball on March 1, 2014 at the Miners Foundry.  Doors open at 8:00 p.m. and the evening features a live band and Cajun food will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Chamber Office for $12.00 or at the door for $15.00.  The Masquerade Ball is ages 21 and over only.

Mardi Gras ParadeOn Sunday, March 2, 2014 the Mardi Gras Street Faire will be held on North Pine Street in historic downtown Nevada City from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  There will be food, drink, crafts, and clothing.  The Mardi Gras Parade begins at 2:00 p.m. and moves down Broad Street through the center of town.  The Street Faire and Parade are rain or shine events.  Merry spectators of all ages line the parade route while gaily masked societies promenade through the historic district handing out beads, toys, trinkets, bangles, and more.  Festive Mardi Gras attire is encouraged.

 

 

Mardi Gras KidsA festive Carnevale for the whole family will take place after the parade.  Carnevale will be held at the Miners Foundry from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Enjoy New Orleans style food, hot dogs, ice cream, desserts, soft drinks, and specialty coffees.  A full bar offering Hurricanes and Bloody Marys will be available for adults.  Delight in Cajun music, Izzy the Juggler, drummers, belly dancers, a bounce house, and more.  Tickets are $5.00 at the door for adults.  Kids are Free.

Nevada City Chinese New Year Parade and Festival ~ Sunday, February 9, 2014

Chinese New YearDue to rain in the forecast, the Nevada City Chinese New Year Parade and Festival has announced a modification for the festivities on Sunday, February 9, 2014.  In the event of light rain, drizzle, or sunshine, the Parade will still be held at 12:00 p.m. down Commercial Street in Nevada City.  All other activities will be held at the Miners Foundry immediately following the parade.  The Parade will begin at Robinson Plaza by the Pelton Wheel and proceed up Commercial Street, with Lion Dancers blessing the Chinese Monument and other structures as they process.

In the event of a downpour, an indoor parade will commence at the Miners Foundry at 12:00 p.m.  Lion Dancers from Eastern Ways Martial Arts of Sacramento will open the entertainment at the Foundry after the parade.  The Festival features Asian food available for purchase and exhibit booths.  The festival will conclude at 4:00 p.m.
