A Workshop for Helping Professionals

No Acting Experience Required

A unique approach to exploring human inter-relationship through dramatic literature, lead by Lindsay Dunckel, Sandra Rockman, and Serge Aronow will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Registration is $95.00 ($30.00 additional for 6 CEUs). Register early, class size will be limited.

~ Improvisation, role-playing, and scene-work will be used as tools to uncover and expand the understanding of relationships.
~ Character development will be analyzed through the psychological aspects of a scene.
~ Experience from the safe distance of a role in a play the life / feelings your clients are experiencing in their work with you.
~ Scenes will be tailored to the interests of participants.

About the Workshop

~ Participants should bring a brown bag lunch (for a working lunch session) and an adventurous spirit.
~ We will work scenes between two (or more) people, discussing motivation, character, and the psychological characteristics of the scene.
~ Participants will read from scripts and will improvise with guidance and support as part of their explorations.

About the Presenters

Sandra Rockman has been involved with the local theater scene since 1978.  She is an actress, playwright, and has directed more than 25 productions, including the recent Thornton Wilder classic Our Town at the Nevada Theatre.  She has been teaching “Truth in Acting” workshops for the past 4 years and is well-known for her orientation toward depth of characterization.

Serge Aronow has been a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist for almost 25 years, and has worked extensively with families and relationships in transition.  He currently has a small private practice.  Serge recently appeared in Antony and Cleopatra at the Nevada Theatre and for many years was part of the ARC theater group under the direction of internationally recognized director the late Robbie Thompson.  The ARC specialized in little known works from around the world.

Lindsay Dunckel holds a PhD in developmental psychology from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, and currently works as the executive director of First 5 Nevada County.  She studied acting in college and recently appeared under Sandra Rockman’s direction in Our Town in Nevada City and appeared in Ruth Ghio’s Reflections in Grass Valley.

Irving Barron (consultant) is a psychiatrist with a background in psychodrama.  He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DLFAPA); a past Senior Lecturer at Wellington School of Medicine, New Zealand; a past Associate Clinical Professor at UCSD School of Medicine; a past President of the San Diego Psychiatric Society; and is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
