The Yuba Watershed Institute is gearing up for the 16th Annual Fungus Foray and the 3rd Annual Wild Mushroom Expo! The Fungus Foray will be on Saturday, December 21 at the North Columbia Schoolhouse, with the Wild Mushroom Expo on Sunday, December 22 at the Miners Foundry. The Foray is a wonderful way to spend a day out in the woods with friends and the mushrooms collected are classified, documented and the data shared with the Forest Service and other interested scientific bodies. In 2012 alone, 25 species not previously known to be in this area were identified.
The Wild Mushroom Expo follows the Foray with mushroom displays and a full day of lectures and classes about these amazing and varied mycelium. All things mushroom will be featured, from soup to shirts, to books and art. Stay tuned as the area’s top mycologists are gathered for this fun, fabulous, fascinating weekend!
The Yuba Watershed Institute is a group of citizens concerned with the sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of long-term biological diversity within the Yuba River watershed. The study, maintenance, use and preservation of the watershed is undertaken in partnership with public land management agencies, professional associations, private landowners, other non-profit organizations, and community organizations. The Institute also serves as an educational resource, providing on ongoing series of talks, seminars, publications, and walks on all aspects of the watershed.
