Second City Hits HomeThe Miners Foundry and Second City will present an Improv for Actors Workshop on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

This class is perfect for college level improvisers or actors who want to use improvisational techniques to support their text work.

The Second City’s Improv for Actors focuses on teaching students scenic improvisation with an emphasis on connection and relationship.

Tickets are $20 for Students and $35 for Adults.

Congolese Drum & Dance Workshop ~ Thursday, February 13, 2014 ~ 4:00 p.m. ~ $15-$20

Congolese_flyer_VivienK.S.K. Dance Collective will present a Congolese Drum & Dance Workshop featuring Master Dancer Vivien Bassouamina with drumming by Arnold Balekita.

The class will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Miners Foundry.  Drum class is at 4:00p p.m. and dance class is at 5:30 p.m.

AXIS Dance Company ~ “To Color Me Different”


AXIS Dance Company will present a Free Workshop in physically integrated dance for dancers and non dancers, with and without disabilities.   When AXIS Dance Company first began performing twenty five years ago, audiences often asked how they could learn more about the field of psychically integrated dance.  In response, AXIS created a uniquely inclusive educational program to inspire and engage participants of all ages and abilities, both amateur and professionals.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Nevada Union High School Dance Studio. To register, call FREED at (530) 265-4444.

Acting for Non Actors with Dinah Smith ~ January 9 – 30, 2013 ~ 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. ~ $80.00

Dinah Smith

Dinah Smith will present Acting for Non Actors, a series of four classes on January 9, 16, 23, & 30, 2013.  The classes will run Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  The cost is $80.00 for the session.  A second series will run in February.

Whether you are simply curious about acting, being on stage, or simply want more ease, confidence, and control in your life, come join Dinah for a fun and entertaining exploration of the skills and exercises that actors engage in every day to be in charge of their life on stage.  This class is geared for people who want to explore acting for fun, self discovery, and self confidence.  Learn techniques to help you overcome self-consciousness and stage fright.  Participate in theatre games that will loosen you up and hep you become more confident.  Begin connecting with people in an authentic and meaningful way.  Acting skills are people skills.  There will be a small amount of self selected memorization required.

Improvisation is a wonderful tool that can be as useful for the classroom or the business meeting as it is for the stage. Come and experience the power of joy-in-the-moment. The exercises and games are great for all levels and ages.

Sandra Rockman has been involved with the local theater scene since 1978. She is an actress, playwright and has directed more than 25 productions, including last summer’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Live Sound Camp for Girls

The Miners Foundry and SoundGirls.org are pleased to present Live Sound Camp for Girls, June 27-July 1, 2016.  The SoundGirls.org Live Sound Camp for Girls is a one-week camp for young women (ages 12-18) who want to learn about live music production.  The camp curriculum was designed by industry veterans and teaches the skills and technology to run live sound.  Working in small, collaborative and hands-on groups, the attendees learn:

Girls Guide to Sound

  • Live Event Safety
  • Stage and Audio Terminology
  • Signal Flow, Setup and Wire PA Systems
  • Input Lists, Stage Plots
  • Microphone Techniques, Wiring Stages
  • Line Check, Sound Check, Mixing
  • Running and Working a Real Show

 

The week ends with the girls producing and running a live show at the Miners Foundry.  Each afternoon the girls will set up and mix local bands.  The girls will also receive a SoundGirls.Org t-shirt, a tool kit, and a copy of the Girls Guide to Doing Sound.  Lunch will be provided each day.  Financial assistance is available.   All genders and non-conforming genders welcome.

 

 

“If you have ever been interested in live sound production for concerts and other events, now is your chance to get real hands on experience.  Karrie Keyes, cofounder fo Soundgirls.org has been touring all over the world as monitor engineer with Pearl Jam (20+years) and did the same for Red Hot Chili Peppers before that.  She and her organization know their stuff and will take students through all ins and outs.  It will be a very fun, educational, and hands on experience.”

Art of the Zine

Two workshops are coming to the Osborn/Woods Gallery on February 10 and February 17, each from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

A zine (/ziːn/ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is most commonly a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier

Everyone – all ages, non-artist, artist, zine expert, zine beginner – is invited to participate in The Art of the Zine. Each workshop is separate, but you are welcome to attend both. In the workshop, we will explore the many different types of zines, and work on our own individual zines as well.  There will be lots of time for exploration, sharing your ideas and the opportunity to display and sell your work at the gallery!

$5.00 fee includes Foxhound Coffee, cookies and hours of creative fun.
