What’s on the Menu for Sideways, August 3?

The fourth installment of our Food & Film Series finds us not only pairing a brilliant film with a great meal, but with a tasting of five local wines, all in celebration of the annual Nevada City Uncorked weekend.

On Friday, August 3rd, we are screening the award-winning film Sideways.  You remember the film, starring Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church as two middle age men up to no good, while in search of great wine, inspiration, fun, and themselves, all set in the beautiful Santa Yanez Valley of Central California.  They meet two local women played by Sandra Oh (before she was famous for her role in Grey’s Anatomy) and Virginia Madsen. What ensues is a film that is “both charming and sexy, uproariously funny and touchingly human.”

Following the film enjoy five wine tastings with a sumptuous menu that marries classic California Cuisine with a French twist, created by Chef Roger Saker of A Family Affair, and includes

Pan roasted salmon with braised cajun relish and Nantua Sauce, which it made from lobster, served with Parmesan Mushroom Pilaf and Portabella Ratatouille.

Tournedos – center cut medallions of filet with a Cabernet Sauce, fresh roasted garlic in mashed potatoes with stir-fried carrots with basil.

Vegetable Vol-au-vent – Hand made puff pastry shells filled with locally grown stir-fried vegetables with Bleu Cheese Veloute, garlic mash potatoes.

Sound yummy?  Well there is more.  The Sideways soundtrack is classic jazz, not cool jazz, but classic jazz, you know, the good stuff like Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Nina Simone, and John Coltrane.  The evening’s sonic backdrop will be performed by the Sierra Jazz Society.  It’s a perfect date night with a spouse, a new beau or lady friend, with your girlfriends or with your family.

Hurry though, you need to RSVP by July 31st.
