Beta Series: C.J. Boyd
July 6, 2019 @ 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM
$10 – $12Miners Foundry is pleased to present an intimate evening of acoustic/experimental/non-mainstream music featuring C.J. Boyd, and supported by Stephanie Siehr and The Stratospheres, and The Unfortunate Bastard on July 6, 2019 at 8:00pm.
Bassist turned vagabond C.J. Boyd uses bass loops and voices in order to try and stop time. On perpetual tour since March 2008, movement and stasis are both at the center of his music. Weaving together improvisation with a sparse, minimalist aesthetic, Boyd creates waves of sound, worlds of provocative unlived memories through a singular approach to the upright bass and electric bass guitar that makes everything near and far. The Unfortunate Bastard are Dave Dalton of Screaming Bloody Marys and Die Laughing Records, and Brian Tierney of The Gargoyles. They liken their sound to a “busker,punk,pub-rock electric… Violent Femmes on on the street corner with Billy Bragg…for more info, visit them on Reverb Nation.
Stephanie Siehr is a musician schooled by old song books, errant radio signals, wandering minstrels, and trees. She grew up in the Midwest, playing piano and organ, alto and baritone saxophones. Guitars, singing, and rock ‘n’ roll came later, in California. Her sound is a mix of pared-down twang and proto-punk, Lucinda Williams meets the Modern Lovers. Stephanie has also performed in the duo Better Odds (with drummer Carl Helm), with the Bob Woods Trio, Curse of Cretins, The Climate Music Project, and others. Contact: [email protected]
Depending on which way the wind is blowing, “The Stratospheres” may include a number of friends. This performance will be enhanced by Liz Stuart (Vocolot).
Doors are at 7:00 p.m. and the show begins at 8:00 p.m.
