Nevada County Reads 2023

FreeNevada County Library is proud to announce that award-winning author Charles Yu will be speaking at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center on May 27th, 2023 at 6 PM. Doors will open to the event at 5:30 PM. This event is the culmination of this year’s Nevada County Reads program from the Nevada County Library. Nevada County Reads is a program designed to deepen engagement in literature through reading and discussion, everyone in the community can participate: read a book, share perspectives, attend a program, engage on social media and build a stronger Nevada County together.
This event is completely free, open to all ages, and all are welcome. Light catering will be provided by the library and drinks can be ordered and enjoyed at the Miners Foundry Bar.
Charles Yu is the author of four books, including his latest, “Interior Chinatown.” “Interior Chinatown” is the tale of Willis Wu, a man who struggles with being able to see himself as the main character in his own life. Written in a unique screenplay format, Interior Chinatown is a tale of identity, love, and Asian-American history. In 2020, Interior Chinatown won the National Book Award in the fiction category and has since been nominated for multiple awards from other institutions.
“Interior Chinatown” is currently in development as a TV series for Hulu. His work has been hailed as innovative, genre-bending, and thought-provoking. He has been recognized as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary literature.
The event will begin with opening and concluding music by Grass Valley Taiko, a local group that specializes in the traditional Japanese drumming style.
Following their performance, Charles Yu will take the stage for an engaging and insightful conversation about his writing process, his literary influences, and the themes that drive his work. The format will be a conversational style discussion with plenty of time for Q&A from the audience!
