In the Summer of 1899 a 17 year old boy, Jack Kelly, longs to escape his life as a newsie on the streets of New York for the small town of Sant Fe, New Mexico.
However, when the price of papers inflates he finds himself fighting for working kids rights by leading a strike.
Come “watch what happens” when Jack finds himself leading a “bunch of kids” with the help of an older boy Davey, and a young women Katherine Plumber as they take on “The World”.
Starring: Bruce B. as Pulitzer, Brooklynn C. as Kathrine, Callum H. as Medda Larkin, Kitsune C. as Jack Kelly, Asher B. & Tammi M. as Crutchie, Sara G. as Race, John Ray D. as Les and Dragon C. as Davey. Many more students and adults from Nevada County & surrounding areas round out the cast and crew!
The Directors:
Suzanne Calhoun is the Artistic Director for Sierra Pines Children’s Community Theater and has been for the last 3 years. She is also the founding director of Ely Children’s Community Theater.
David Lynn is the Musical Director for this show. He is a local school music teacher, band/choir director, and has many credits in local theater productions around Nevada county.
Dragon Calhoun is our student director for this summer’s production. Dragon has many acting and choreography credits in school and community theater. Most recently they performed in the cast of 1984 at the Hammer Theater in San Jose.
Our Student Choreographers this year are Sara and Kitsune. They both have many years of dance experience in local community theater, The Nutcracker, 3 different dance schools, and are currently a part of Bear River Dance in south county.
