The Dresser
November 16, 2016 @ 7:30 PM
$10
Sierra Stages and the Miners Foundry will present The Dresser on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. The Dresser, written by Ronald Harwood and directed by Susan Mason, is the next installment of Theater By the Book, a series of informal play readings for the community.
Both hilarious and heartbreaking, The Dresser is a backstage glimpse into life upon the wicked stage, where the power of theatre may lift the human spirit. As Britain is under attack from German aircraft during the Second World War, a group of traveling, ragtag Shakespearean players tour the English countryside performing King Lear. At the head of this troupe is “Sir”, the last in his generation of great actors. As he prepares to play his 227th performance, he suddenly realizes he cannot recall his first line. Only his dedicated and loyal dresser, Norman, can bring the once-great actor to the stage for a final curtain call.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation. Advance tickets are available online, in person or by phone at the Miners Foundry, or at the door.
