NEO LogoWhile the focus of NEO is to keep young people drug and alcohol free, we believe that the most effective way to do this is by addressing root causes which contribute to drug and alcohol use and abuse.

Because of this we address many issues such as suicide, depression, body image, education, healthy alternatives and community responsibility.

Together, these efforts combine to provide a comprehensive, multifaceted approach aimed at building assets and resiliency ultimately reducing overall drug and alcohol use.

NEO LogoNEO empowers youth to make healthy lifestyle choices by providing New Events and Opportunities in a safe environment that encourages youth success and contributes to a healthier community.

NEO hosts an average of 70 events per year with approximately 7,000 people attending.

We’ve seen great success with our events, we’ve decided it’s time to build on this and work towards finding a permanent home, so instead of supporting young people just a few times a month we can be providing activities everyday of the week.

On Friday, April 19th, the Miners Foundry was proud to support NEO’s 2nd annual Fashion Runway Show.  NEO is a local non-profit that provides positive activities for youth in our community.  This years theme was BE UNIQUE!  This one-of-a-kind fashion event for young people was part of NEO’s Love Your Body Campaign, striving to inspire young people to love themselves for who they are, no matter what shape, size or color.  The show featured local youth designers, artists, and musicians as well as featured collections from local retailers.

The event was the fourth fundraiser the Foundry has worked with NEO to support.  The event was made possible, in part, by a grant from the Ghidotti Foundation which supports the Foundry’s Youth Arts and Education programming.

Other programs supported are 7-Hills Medieval Festival, Nevada Union Art Department Show, Nevada Union Great Gatsby Night.  As a non-profit community cultural center, the Foundry strives to support the work of fellow community non-profit organizations that help create the healthy and vibrant community we live in.

Rat Stomp at the Foundry in 2011

NEO will present a Rock Concert on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Miners Foundry in Nevada City.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00 p.m.  The line up includes The Hot Dark, Opposition, Persist to Rise, Wishing Stick, and Rat Stomp.  Tickets are $8.00 in Advance and $10.00 at the Door.

NEO got started during the summer of 2008 with one adult and two youth because there was nothing to do. We know there aren’t many places open past 7pm that youth can go to here in Nevada County and we wanted to change that. NEO is committed to inspiring the community to create and support more youth friendly areas and drug free activities.
